From home stays, bed and breakfast to speciality lodging such as ultra modern jungle retreats, boutique hotels, heritage properties and palace accommodations including dinners accompanied by the maharaja are available. Its important for you to be able to identify the experience that you would like to have and the kind of budget that you are on.
The skies, the rails and the roads have opened up in a big way and will be able to accommodate you if you have the inclination to try it. There are very many choices today at affordable prices to fly between major cities. Low cost carriers make travelling to most cities affordable as well as sensible with their vast connectivity and frequency. But the train experience is something that is highly recommended if one wants to see the true India. There is still an old world charm that it brings to your travel - thanks to many of the coaches that have remained as old world charms. Nevertheless, it is an adventure that docent need you to be prepared for your heart to come to your throat and therefore is worth giving a try. Road travel has been made quite comfortable and safe if one chooses to travel during the decent hours of the day.
Indian food ranges from street food to royal cuisine. One needs to prepare mentally in order to try local cuisine which will set the stage to experience any region. Food is an integral part of all religions and all festivities. The best way to ensure a safe way to travel is to stick to local cuisine, hot food and fresh food. Trying exotic french toast in Thanjavur (though available in many hotels today) is definitely not recommended!
There are many activities that one can indulge in while travelling around India. Though not the adventure capital of the world, we offer adventures of our own. Trekking, hiking, bullock cart rides, dancing on wooden sticks ( poi kal kuthirai aatam) etc
Tips are usually a given in India. It mostly ranges between Rs.10 - Rs.100. Anything beyond that should call for extraordinary levels of service. Many Places do charge a service charge and one needs to be aware of that. So pls check the receipt.
